• Solar Power Your Future

Technology is Making It Easier & Cheaper For Everyone to Enjoy the Power of the Sun

Solar Power Systems

You could be excused if you thought Australians have a love affair with Solar. It’s true!

In March 2013 the Clean Energy Council confirmed that the number of Australian homes with rooftop solar had reached the magic one million milestone. The east coast leads the way, with Qld heading up NSW & Victoria in terms of generation capacity.

The rooftop solar market really began to fire in 2008, with Qld introducing a 44c net Feed-in Tariff (FiT). Other States soon followed with various FiTs culminating with NSW and the ACT offering a gross 60c FiT (a full history can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feed-in_tariffs_in_Australia ).

For those that got in early enough to participate in these schemes, they have benefited from all that the sun has thrown at us! Some homes will continue to benefit, with some FiTs lasting many more years, while others have since expired, or will soon expire (like NSW’s gross 60c FiT). New solar customers will unfortunately get the new lower FiT rates that are now on offer by our Electricity Retailers (typically 6-12c/kWh).

Battery Storage, Selling It Back to Grid & more…

Is Battery Storage the Future?

With small feed-in tariffs now on offer from our electricity retailers, the next stage for solar in Australia is the use of batteries to store your power. This is because you are financially better off storing the energy for later use, rather than selling it back to the grid at a low FiT rate.

We are Green Sky are proud partners with Enphase Storage solutions and Sonnen batteries, two of the best solar storage solutions available. This is a new and changing market, and the team at Green Sky are happy to assist and direct you towards the best solution for your particular situation.

Government Rebate?

Our Federal Government has also supported solar installations by providing generous rebates to assist with the initial purchase of systems (and to also assist with adding and replacing panels).

While the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme http://www.cleanenergyregulator.gov.au/RET/About-the-Renewable-Energy-Target/How-the-scheme-works/Small-scale-Renewable-Energy-Scheme is normally referred to as a ‘rebate’ in effect it is a subsidy offering an up-front discount on your purchase of a solar power system.

Current incentives vary depending on where in Australia you are located and are also based on what size system (panel capacity) is being installed.

Naturally a system located in Darwin will produce more solar power than the same sized system in Tasmania and the rebate is structured accordingly.

Don’t get too bogged down in this though. At Green Sky we’ll take care of this paperwork and make the process easy for you.

Save Energy. Save Money.

While the Small-scale ‘rebate’ is still in place, it is not known for how long this will be the case. With the inevitable onset of solar storage (batteries), there is some thought that the Government may move incentives more towards storage, rather than solar installations… only time will tell.

What does this mean for you?

Basically that you should get in and secure your system, or expand your existing system, before the rebates are removed.
